Fun in the Rough Jewel of the Triangle

Durham has evolved from being a gritty mill and tobacco town to being a gritty performance and sports town. If you doubt that here’s two words for you DPAC and DBAP. And then there’s Duke athletics, where the women’s basketball team is a tough ticket and the men’s impossible. In 26 years here I’ve never sat in snow for a Duke Football game and seldom even have to wear a coat. And just watch NCCU as they move into the big leagues. Did I mention that we’re the foodie capital of the Triangle…shoot…we’re the foodie capital of the state and maybe the whole Southeast. If you run out of options here you’re having way too much fun.

Via Downtown Durham Inc and its newsletter we find an interesting “city guide” to Durham. The guide was created on Design Sponge which describes itself as a “daily site for home and product design” and visually it is very attractive. The Durham guide is one of many city guides on the site and if you […]

Dancing

November 18, 2009

Introducing Alberta

Occasionally I come across a question that I just don’t know how to answer without writing an e-book. My friend Alberta thinks it’s because I’m a typical insensitive male whose empathetic tendencies were dulled long ago…but she likes me anyway! She’s agreed to tackle some of these questions for me when they come up. To […]

Durham is…

As the chair of the PR committee for the Downtown Durham Rotary Club I often end up writing the report on the program for the weekly bulletin. Last Monday, Tom Bonfield, Durham’s new city manager and a member of the club presented the program. I’m re-publishing my write-up here because Mr. Bonfield made such a […]
