Shelly Green of the DCVB

A New Crowned Head in Durham

Reyn Bowman Passes the Throne to Shelly Green

Reyn Bowman has passed the management of the Durham Convention and Visitors Bureau to his long time right hand person, Shelly Green.  The picture shows Shelly trying on the crown in her new office at the downtown offices of the organization which is responsible of the marketing of the community as its “marketing agency.”

Shelly’s letter to the community tells you a lot about her plans and has a link to her background in the industry.  Shelly is obviously very capable but she has big shoes to fill.

Reyn retired after building a superb organization from noting during 20 years as the DVCB head and was also a leader among national “destination marketers.”  Reyn will be remembered for many things but primarily for the passion and persistence in challenging anyone or any organization that maliciously or not tried to portray Durham as somehow a satellite city of Raleigh or dismissing  its cultural diversity.

It’s worth noting that Reyn was one of three movers and shakers in the city that were memorialized recently with portraits hung at the Civic Center. The other two were the long time head of Downtown Durham, Inc., Bill Kalkhof and long time Mayor and former Chairman of the Durham Board of County Commissioners, Bill Bell.

Good luck Shelly. I hope I’m around long enough to see your portrait hung at the Civic Center too.

To anybody contemplating moving to the Triangle, you should know that there is nothing superficial about the marketing job that the DCVB has done.  It’s a great place to live. Use the link on the sidebar to the visitors guide to see just what I mean or go to the organization’s site at http://durham-cvb.com.
