Pride in Durham

by Jay on November 30, 2009

I collect most of my RSS feeds in Google Reader and I’ve found so many interesting ones to follow that sometimes I get way behind reading them…it’s kind of like unread magazines used to stack up unread when print media was more fashionable.

I was catching up after the Thanksgiving holidays and came across a gem from Reyn Bowman, who will retire next month from his job as the leader of the Durham Convention and Visitors Bureau.  Reyn has really found a voice in his blog Bull City Mutterings. I don’t know how many people follow the blog but there are rarely any comments…and that is a shame because his insights about the Durham community are perhaps more informed by honest to gosh research and acquired wisdom than any others I have seen.

Back in September he posted an analysis of data about Durham’s unusually high community pride.  It’s entitled Measuring One of Durham’s Key Assets and the research produced the chart above. Anybody moving to the Triangle that is trying to decide which community to live in should read this post and subscribe to the blog.  Durhamites (including real estate agents) who are holdouts about proclaiming the desirability of Durham can find plenty of support here too.

To subscribe to SpringtreeTerritory using the Feedburner RSS feed click here…or…subscribe via email here. Both are completely anonymous and may be canceled at anytime.
