Why a Blog?

by Jay on October 23, 2009

Blogging and “social media” have been hot topics in the real estate industry but most agents don’t blog or even have a website.  So, why me?

There are a couple of reasons.  The first is that I can. I enjoy writing and the challenge of mastering the technology. Love it or hate it, I’ve written all the content and learned a half dozen software programs to pull it all together.

Second, I think it’s a good way to show clients and potential clients how I think and how I work and even some of my personality.  And since I work for myself,  nobody can wag their finger at me if some of the things I do buck the trends.

Finally, the blog is my soapbox for helping promote Durham.  Nobody just buys a house. They also buy a neighborhood and a community. This month marks my 25th anniversary as a resident of Durham and I’ve never wanted to live anywhere else in the Triangle. I love the spirit, I love the character and I love what Durham has made of itself in those 25 years.

Part of marketing homes in Durham requires selling Durham. My experience there goes back to my days as Marketing Director of Central Carolina Bank and Chair of the Marketing Committee on the founding board of Downtown Durham, Inc. when there wasn’t a much to sell with a crumbling downtown and an image not much better.

I hope you will subscribe to the feed, make use of some of the reports that will be offered and comment on posts when you like or don’t like what you read.
